100 Followers Party & a Question

I can't even tell you how jazzed I am to have 100 followers! What better way too celebrate than with another great resource?  It's the time of year when many of us are covering r controlled vowels, so I am posting my er,ir,ur word and picture match with a recording sheet. Hope you like.




Now... a questions for you guys.  Next week I am beginning a math chapter on geometric solids and plane shapes. Sitting at my desk after school I began to rack my brain on some ways to bring this topic alive for my little ones. I came up empty handed.  I  began to wonder where I could come up with some great ideas and resources when it occurred to me to ask my bloggy buddies. So....does anyone know any novel ideas? I am feeling a little daunted.

    I, too, am starting a unit on geometric solids and am lacking good, concrete lessons. I'd love to hear what you find! For now, I will be teaching the unit from the district math adoption and supplementing with lessons from NCTM's Illuminations website.

    Ok friends! I have a couple of ideas that I got from lessonplansos.com {click math and primary math and then geometry} HEAD THERE NOW! Their lessons are SUPER cheap (less than a dollar) and I've loved everything I got!

    Thanks for the great ideas you guys. Ali, yes I have a Smartboard and would love your 3D shapes. I will check out lesson plans SOS and Illuminations website this weekend. Is everyone able to access the centers now? I had my IT Director (aka my wonderful husband) work on it this morning. He does tech for a living and was a little baffled by my technical difficulties.

    It might be a little late now, but when I did shapes I used toothpicks and marshmallows at a station for kids to build pyramids, cubes, and rectangular prisms. Also, my school uses Thinking Maps so we used a Bridge Map to show the relationships between the geometric figure and an actual object (ex: a basketball is the shape of a sphere AS a rubix cube is the shape of a cube).
